Empowerment is a word widely used, but seldom defined. Empowerment is an active, multi-dimensional process which enables women to realize their full identity and powers in all spheres of life. Empowerment is a process and is not, therefore, something that can be given to people. The process of empowerment is both individual and collective, since it is through involvement in groups that people most often begin to develop their awareness and the ability to organize to take action and bring about change. Women's empowerment can be viewed as a continuum of several interrelated and mutually reinforcing components.Empowerment is the process of enabling or authorizing individual to think, take action and control work in an autonomous way. It is the process by which one can gain control over one's destiny and the circumstances of one's lives. Empowerment includes control over resources (physical, human, intellectual and financial) and over ideology (beliefs, values and attitudes).The Oxford American Dictionary defines "empowerment" as to make stronger and more confident, especially in controlling their life and claiming their rights. It means to give women power and help them to face the challenges of being a woman in society. For centuries, women were treated as less than equal to men in many ways. Women were not allowed to vote, own property or work in many jobs. Now women are out of those dark ages, women are more empowered to do whatever they want. This means that they have the ability to choose their own destiny, job, vote and do anything a man can do. Women's empowerment means talking about women taking more of a leadership role. Empowerment refers to increasing the spiritual, political, social or economic strength of individuals and communities. It often involves the empowered developing confidence in their own capacities.The concept of empowerment has assumed a unique role in the empowerment of women. Employment opportunities for women are increasing with the industrialization in developed and developing Economies,Traditionally women's occupational status has always been identified with family and children. Recent changes has become in economic, political, social and educational scenario in the women's status and her role. This has resulted in rapid strides in women's progress.
